Lambda Chi Alpha is a Nationally Respected Innovator in Fraternity Life

Founded in 1909, Lambda Chi Alpha is a national leader in the Greek movement. With more than 270,000 initiated members, Lambda Chi Alpha is one of the largest men's general fraternities in North America. There are nearly 200 active Lambda Chi chapters, and we remain a leader in the fight against hazing, alcohol abuse, drugs, and other challenges facing today's college student.

No Pledges or Hazing Here -- You Begin As an Associate Member...

In the early 1970s, Lambda Chi Alpha was the first fraternity to eliminate pledging, when it pioneered the national fraternity education and training curriculum called the Associate Member program. It's all about equality and respect...

  • Our Associate Members (AMs) can take on a leadership role from day one. An AM can run for any office (except for ritualist) and vote on any matter other than issues involving our ritual and initiation.
  • In just eight weeks, AMs at Iowa State learn about Lambda Chi Alpha, its history and how we're organized.
  • AMs learn how we function as a group, how we govern ourselves and how we develop leaders for our chapter, our campus and our country.
  • Lambda Chi AMs also learn how our core fraternity values relate to real situations in the fraternity.
As an AM at Lambda Chi Alpha, you'll build a solid foundation for further growth and become inspired to become a True Brother.

Then, You Become A True Brother...for Life.

Lambda Chi Alpha has transformed the approach to the modern day fraternity experience by instituting the True Brother Initiative. This program provides a format and structure for our members to actively live the Seven Core Values of Lambda Chi Alpha throughout their undergraduate and adult lives:

Seven Core Values of Lambda Chi Alpha

  • Loyalty
  • Duty
  • Respect
  • Service and Stewardship
  • Honor
  • Integrity
  • Personal Courage

Lambda Chi Alpha at Iowa State University sees the True Brother Initiative as the foundation for the future and the key to our success in the chapter's next 100 years. This initiative is just one of the many landmarks that give our fraternity a rich and respected history on campus.

Parents of Lambda Chi’s Strongly Support Membership

My membership in Lambda Chi Alpha has been invaluable in my pharmacy practice and my academic career. As a Professor, I see how participation in fraternity activities leads to academic success and greatly strengthens a student’s desire to stay in college.  I value fraternity membership highly, and I strongly supported my son in also joining Lambda Chi Alpha.”

--Michael Andreski, RPh, PhD; Assistant Professor of Social and Administrative Pharmacy; Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences; Des Moines, IA  and alumni adviser of the Lambda Chi Alpha chapter at Iowa State (515) 271-4132
